Financial troubles at Auschwitz

Visitors walk through Auschwitz, 26 January 2005

Auschwitz attracts more than a million visitors a year

January 27th is International Holocaust Memorial Day. This marks the anniversary of the day in 1945 that the Auschwitz death camp was liberated by Soviet troops.

The horror of what was perpetrated there is well-known.

At least 1.1m people, mainly Jews from all over Europe, were killed, the majority in the gas chambers.

After the end of World War Two Auschwitz was turned into a museum and memorial. But as Raffi Berg reports, a lack of funds means the future of the site is in doubt.
